Why I Love HillsDale

There are many reasons I love HillsDale but mostly it's our neighbors.
HillsDale's 213 homes have stood the test of time very well. Unlike some surrounding neighborhoods, HillsDale homes were very well constructed 40-60 years ago and have maintained their property values relatively well.
While many of the homes in surrounding neighborhoods have been demolished by developers because they've exceeded their useful life, the only homes knocked down in HillsDale have been re-builds by current owners who loved HillsDale and wanted to stay. More each year, current owners are investing in renovations of their HillsDale homes due to their intrinsic value.
HillsDale is a rare, quiet enclosure in an urbanizing environment. Our
neighborhood does not suffer from the volume and speed of cut-through
traffic that every other traditional neighborhood in the area
experiences. While the surrounding communities are placing speed tables
and other traffic dampening devices in place, HillsDale streets remain
relatively calm.
These and other happy facts are the direct
result of the dedicated effort and community-mindedness of our
neighbors and volunteers from our long active civic association, the
HillsDale Neighborhood Association. While volunteering in our civic is
a great way to help HillsDale, simple, neighborly and civic-minded acts
by individuals also make a difference.
Recent examples include
the efforts of neighbors like Donna Schurer who took it upon herself to
clean out the clogged storm water drain on Lindenwood Lane and took scrub
brushes to HillsDale's entrance signs. One recent afternoon, I entered the
neighborhood to find Angela Borcetta-White on a step ladder cleaning
street signs.
This morning, I was walking my dog and was welcomed
on Fairway Circle by a water and "poop drop" station setup in a shady spot by our neighbor,
Beth Watkins. What a great gift on a hot day to man and beast alike! Tom Weber donated the time and sweat equity to select
and install handsome shrubbery at both of our entrance sign
installations.
You may know of many more quiet acts of community spirit in our neighborhood. At a time when there is so much uncertainty, it is nice to know that I can count on my HillsDale neighbors to remind me what a great community we have.
Yes, HillsDale is a great neighborhood and one of
the best kept secrets in Brookhaven.
We are in an incredibly convenient location with access to great employment and entertainment opportunities. We also are the beneficiaries of being in one of the wealthiest and most prestigious zip codes in Atlanta, 30319. These facts very much help maintain our property values and our household finances.
But mostly, HillsDale is simply a great place to live and it is because of the people who have lived here and made it so. Thank you to all who care about this unique and special place. Here's hoping the next half century is as good to HillsDale as the first half century has been.
