2074 writes "Rasa Organics is a new north Georgia CSA that grows non-GMO, natural produce on a historic farm in Dalton, Georgia. We follow organic growing standards and strive to run a sustainable, innovative, and ecologically flourishing farm.
What is a CSA? CSA means "Community Supported Agriculture." It is a way for you to support your local farmer by investing as a "shareholder" up front in the growing season. This arrangement helps to ease the up front costs for the farmer, which typically ensures a larger, more diverse crop planting and yield. In return, the shareholders receive a bag or box (usually on a weekly basis) of the freshest, in season produce from farmers that they have come to know. Read more on our What We're About page.
Most people choose to receive produce weekly for one or more season. We try to be flexible and can work with you to accomodate every other week pick-ups and week-by-week purchases as well. Please visit link below for pricing and a list of 2010's produce!
Currently, we have a pick up location in Dalton and we also deliver produce to the Brookhaven and Highlands areas of Metro Atlanta. We are happy to serve out local community with vibrant and healthy produce. Please visit our Pick-Up Locations page for more details!

Isabella writes "I have been a home owner in this community for over two years. I invested in my home for many reasons: Financial, aesthetics, security, location, demographics, driveways, garages, etc. Overall I have been satisfied with my investment and my life in Hilldale. My neighbors are friendly and generally take good care to watch after one another.
I have many compliments on the neighborhood such as those listed above. My pet peeve which I have had since moving into the neighborhood is simple and an eye sore and that is: CARS/TRUCKS/TRAILERS/ETC PARKED ON THE STREET.
We are fortunate to have driveways here. Many homes inside the perimeter such as Midtown, etc. do not have driveways. It is frustrating to dodge cars coming down the street or to have to ensure a car is not parked behind me when I back out of my driveway. Cars in the street make the neighborhood look trashy and unkempt. Many of us have mulitple vehicles in our families. Most seem to figure out how to manage that. Some of us need to learn from that system!
Thanks for your consideration and I hope you will be courteous when you park your vehicle or have guests over. "

Member Contributed: 60 Unit Condo Proposal Deferred Again
|
|
Based on the notes and agenda circulated today regarding the Board of Commissioners' (BOC) April 22 meeting, the proposed land use and zoning applications necessary to give the go ahead to a 60-unit condo at Wright Road and North Druid Hills have been deferred once again along with a related item on Clearwater. I believe this is the 3rd (or more) deferral for this item. The next time it's on the BOC agenda is June 10.
The developer and the Commission have been examining density and traffic management concerns for the better part of 6 months at this point. I'm hoping to get a more detailed update from some of the parties in the coming days and will pass along. For now, here are the formal entries from April 22 related to this matter:
H12. Rezone – Lenox Residential Development c/o Linda Dunlavy (decision only) – DEFERRED TO JUNE 10, 2008; DECISION ONLY H13. Land Use Plan Amendment – McAfee & Morris Development. LLC c/o Dillard & Galloway, LLC (public hearing) – DEFERRED TO JUNE 10, 2008; PUBLIC HEARING H14. Rezone – McAfee & Morris Development. LLC c/o Dillard & Galloway, LLC (public hearing) – DEFERRED TO JUNE 10, 2008; PUBLIC HEARING

We have a number of kids in the neighborhood now, so let's stay in the neighborhood and go Trick or Treating between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
If you will be passing out candy, please leave a light on or some other indication for the Trick or Treaters. If you will not be passing out candy, please turn your lights off during the trick or treating hours. Its a drag to walk all the way up to a door and get no answer.
Comments?! Hope to see you on Halloween! -Amy Granelli "

A quick note to recognize a few civic-minded neighbors ...
You will notice that both entrances of our neighborhood are now are graced by bright, new HillsDale signs. I think it is important to recognize Will Chace, Chuck Sobers, and Ken Storr for their efforts in this success. Also, Greg Forrester pressure washed the brick bases of both installations and the result is a much more attractive public face for HillsDale.
Additional efforts by these volunteers and others are underway to examine the possiblity of adding a landscape installation that may include lighting features. The civic-mindedness of these individuals must be applauded by all who make HillsDale their home - three cheers! -Kim

Member Contributed: Woodward Elementary Did Not Meet AYP 2005
|
|
Do you care about this news if you don't have elementary school age children? You should: the quality of local schools is one of the key influences on your property's value.
The math is simple. Families with children will view HillsDale homes as tens of thousands (or more) of dollars less valuable than homes in other neighborhoods that are similar in every other way simply because they recognize the expense of private schools in the decision.
Our local elementary school failed to meet the Academic Standards portion of the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements for No Child Left Behind (NCLB) in 2005 (and 2003). Woodward is one of only two elementary schools in the county that must offer "choice" under NCLB.
Note: Woodward and Cross Keys both failed to meet AYP in 2006 again. On a positive note, Sequoyah Middle did meet AYP 2006.

tom writes "The Georgia Legislature is in Session. You may have read in the AJC about the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding municipalities right to use Eminent Domain to condemn private property for economical development, or Georgia’s Eminent Domain Laws, which allows for government authority to condemn private property to sell for economic development to increase tax revenues. If you are opposed to government determining the value of your property versus the market, please let your representatives hear from you.
