There is a problem right now with this block.

There are many reasons I love HillsDale but mostly it's our neighbors.
HillsDale's 213 homes have stood the test of time very well. Unlike some surrounding neighborhoods, HillsDale homes were very well constructed 40-60 years ago and have maintained their property values relatively well.
While many of the homes in surrounding neighborhoods have been demolished by developers because they've exceeded their useful life, the only homes knocked down in HillsDale have been re-builds by current owners who loved HillsDale and wanted to stay. More each year, current owners are investing in renovations of their HillsDale homes due to their intrinsic value.

Cross Keys Students Achieve in Spite of Obstacles
|
|
This is a reprint of an article to appear in HNA's published newsletter. I think it is important for HillsDale, Brookhaven Heights, Deveraux Commons, Pine Hills, and other area neighborhoods to realize that there are great improvements happening at Cross Keys each year. Far to go but much accomplished! Kudos are in order for Dr. McMillan, the Cross Keys faculty, and especially the students ...
"February was a very busy month for the
students and faculty at Cross Keys High School. The Juniors were
busy preparing for the Georgia High School Graduation test. The
Georgia High School Graduation test will be administered March 23-27,
2008. As you know, student performance on this test determines AYP
for Georgia High schools, and an individual student’s ability to
graduate with a High School diploma. Our teachers have been working
with our students to make sure that they are prepared for all
sections of the test. I have spoken with a number of the Juniors and
they feel quite confident about their ability to pass the Georgia
High School Graduation test."

Ann Gilbert, Neighbor and Friend, Has Died
|
|
Please share this message with your neighbors who may not have email.
Our community has lost a great neighbor. Ann Gilbert died this past
Sunday. Ann was a long-time resident of HillsDale and an active member
of the HillsDale Neighborhood Association (HNA) every year. HNA
volunteers over the years came to know well Ann's willingness to help,
her endless energy and her optimism.

Tom Weber Is HillsDale's Iron Man
|
|
Imagine it is the week before Christmas. You're work is piling up and reaching a crescendo just in time for the holidays. It's cold and rainy. But wait, there's more! You have to have oral surgery on your jaw on 12/19! Given these circumstances, all of us would certainly bow out of attending a DeKalb Community Council meeting on the subject of a zoning application near HillsDale. Tom didn't! That is why he is HillsDale's "Iron Man" when it comes to the civic association and our community interest. In spite of painful out patient surgery on the morning of December 19, Tom attended the long and boring zoning meeting that night in Decatur. I was shocked to see him there and made a commitment to myself to make sure his neighbors found out about his dedication. Be sure to thank him the next time you see him!

Last month HillsDale recognized the efforts of HNA members who gave of their time and effort to install new signs at our entrances. It is with great appreciation and recognition, that we also give a special thanks to each resident who is a contributing member to the HillsDale Neighborhood Association, and our following neighbors who have made a special contribution to defray the cost for our signs.
Susan & Larry Adams Laurie Barker & Tom Wilson Robert & Joel Killian Chuck Sobers
The HillsDale Neighborhood Association is a civic organization and thus, completely voluntary. We hope to encourage each of our neighbors to be involved with our community. Your meeting and greeting of our neighbors creates an awareness and familiarity, which fosters our security and safety. We are small in size, but can achieve much if we so desire, to maintain HillsDale as a great place to call home.

A quick note to recognize a few civic-minded neighbors ...
You will notice that both entrances of our neighborhood are now are graced by bright, new HillsDale signs. I think it is important to recognize Will Chace, Chuck Sobers, and Ken Storr for their efforts in this success. Also, Greg Forrester pressure washed the brick bases of both installations and the result is a much more attractive public face for HillsDale.
Additional efforts by these volunteers and others are underway to examine the possiblity of adding a landscape installation that may include lighting features. The civic-mindedness of these individuals must be applauded by all who make HillsDale their home - three cheers! -Kim

Julie writes "Thank you for creating the Hillsdale Neighborhood Association website. "

Those of you have attended recent HNA meetings know that Chuck Sobers has put his money where his mouth. Chuck has been an outspoken advocate for improving our neighborhood's entrances. Chuck has not only worked closely with Ken Storr and others on preparing options for the community to consider, but he contributed $100 of his own money towards the cause.
There's still a lot of work to do to make the dream of new signage for Hillsdale a reality but I wanted to recognize those who have dedicated themselves to this effort and, in particular, to recognize Chuck's generous cash gift to the community.
P.S. Chuck also has volunteered to prepare, publish and distribute a homeowner survey so look for that on your mailbox soon and please respond!
